The Center for Migration Studies (CMS) hosted a special conversation with Juan P. Osuna, former Director of the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR) at the US Department of Justice (DOJ), where he oversaw the agency that houses the US immigration court system. Prior to joining EOIR, Professor Osuna was an Associate Deputy Attorney General at DOJ where he oversaw immigration policy. He also served as Deputy Assistant Attorney General in DOJ’s Civil Division, where he was in charge of immigration-related civil litigation in the federal courts. Professor Osuna has also served as Chairman of the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA), the highest administrative tribunal on immigration law in the United States. He is currently an adjunct professor at Georgetown University’s School of Law.

Donald Kerwin, CMS’s Executive Director, interviewed Professor Osuna on the challenges facing the immigration court system, his tenure at DOJ, Obama era immigration initiatives, and the early months of the Trump administration.  The event included time for questions to Professor Osuna from the audience.
