June 18, 2015

The Center for Migration Studies of New York (CMS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Linda Hartke to the agency’s board of trustees. Ms. Hartke has been President and Chief Executive Officer of Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Services (LIRS) since February 2010.
Ms. Hartke has held leadership positions in several non-profit organizations and in government. She served as executive director of the Ecumenical Advocacy Alliance, a global network of churches and agencies engaged in advocacy on common concerns. She also served as chief of staff to Rep. Chet Atkins, where she worked on issues affecting the Southeast Asian refugee community in Massachusetts. After seven years on Capitol Hill, she continued her work with Church World Service (CWS), serving as CWS’s country director in Cambodia where she worked on reintegrating internally displaced persons.
In announcing Ms. Hartke’s appointment, Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio, Chairman of CMS’s board of trustees, said:
“We are delighted that Ms. Hartke has agreed to join CMS’s board. She will bring great wisdom and experience to our collective work, including through her leadership positions in faith-based and refugee protection organizations. We are confident that she will substantially contribute to the growth, influence and continued revitalization of CMS.”
