With consideration of comprehensive immigration reform rapidly moving forward, Charities USA asked Donald Kerwin, Executive Director of the Center for Migration Studies (CMS), to share his perspective on the issues surrounding immigration and immigrants in the United States. In the interview, Mr. Kerwin expands on the need for an overhaul of federal immigration laws to address the family and labor-based immigration system as well as the legalization of the US’s unauthorized population. He also discusses how faith-based communities have provided valuable direct services that assist with the successful integration of migrants; and how there are further opportunities for strengthened cooperation and greater collective impact.
