CMS Appoints New JMHS Editors

February 18, 2015

New York, NY – The Center for Migration Studies of New York (CMS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Michele Pistone and John Hoeffner as the new co-managing editors of the Journal on Migration and Human Security (JMHS), a peer-reviewed public policy journal on international migration by CMS.

Ms. Pistone and Mr. Hoeffner each enjoy more than two decades of experience in immigration issues, as litigators, attorneys, scholars, teachers and authors.

Ms. Pistone is Professor of Law at Villanova University School of Law and Founding Director of the Clinic for Asylum, Refugee and Emigrant Services. She is also founder of LegalED, an internet start-up that hosts resources for teaching and learning the law.

Mr. Hoeffner has held positions in the private sector, government and academia. He is currently an instructor at Villanova University and has been commissioned to research and write scholarly articles on various topics concerning migration, including integration, employment and labor migration and Catholic social thought on immigration.

Pistone and Hoeffner, who are married, have written extensively about substantive and procedural issues in immigration law, as well as larger moral and security concerns raised by international migration. Among their numerous publications, they co-authored Stepping Out Of the Brain Drain: Applying Catholic Social Teaching in A New Era of Migration.

Donald Kerwin, CMS Executive Director, said:

“We are thrilled that Ms. Pistone and Mr. Hoeffner, who are highly accomplished authors, editors, and scholars in the immigration field, will be joining us to take over the management of JMHS. We are confident that the journal will continue to grow in rigor, influence and reach under their leadership.”

Kerwin also thanked outgoing managing editor, Breana George, for her “tireless, skilled and invaluable service to the JMHS during its first three years and to CMS more broadly.”
