The Center for Migration Studies of New York (CMS) offers pioneering publications, strategic events, policy relevant research, and data on select immigrant and refugee populations. CMS “initiatives” focus sustained attention on priority populations and issues, drawing from the agency’s diverse activities, communication tools and work product. Its newest initiative covers COVID-19-related policies and their impact on immigrants and refugees. It also offers research and reporting on the effect of the global pandemic on migrants, refugees, and their sending and receiving communities.
Other CMS initiatives cover the global and US refugee protection systems; US immigration policy; democratizing data on select US foreign-born populations; and understanding and strengthening the work of Catholic and other faith-based institutions with immigrants. For all of its initiatives, CMS:
- Cultivates and draws on the best scholars, thinkers, and experts in the field, including migrants and refugees;
- Supports multi-disciplinary, comparative research and scholarship;
- Offers evidence-based, “person-centered” policy ideas; and
- Convenes diverse advisory groups in order to meet migration-related challenges in a multi-disciplinary and sustained way.
