Undocumented Aliens in the New York Metropolitan Area: An Exploration into their Society and Labor Market Incorporation

Demetrios G. Papademetriou and Nicholas DiMarzio
1986

This book presents research on the undocumented migrant population in New York. The results of this research have allowed both an in-depth look at the goals and motivations of the immigrant households and the individual immigrants and a glimpse of the structural causes and consequences of international migration. Social, economic, and political conditions at home and destination are examined and considerable light is shed on the complex relationship between emigration, remittances, and return by providing evidence on some of the principal components of the arguments repeatedly presented during the ongoing debate on the proposed Immigration Reform and Control Act.
