Jean Beaman of Purdue University reviews African Immigrant Families in Another France. This book illustrates the structural and cultural markers which characterize these immigrants’ integration experiences. Employing a “cultural-materialist framework,” Bass argues that African immigrants’ experiences of integration into French society, or lack thereof, reflect a combination of cultural and structural factors, including values, beliefs, economic resources, and labor market structures.
