Edited by Elzbieta M. Gozdziak, Georgetown University; and Susan F. Martin, Georgetown University Reviewed by Caroline B. Brettell, Southern Methodist University
Fall 2006

Caroline B. Brettell, Professor of Anthropology at Southern Methodist University, reviews Beyond the Gateway: Immigrants in a Changing America. The book is about immigrant settlement in nontraditional parts of the United States such as Minneapolis and Atlanta. One of the main focuses is how these communities have responded to the increase in diversity. It offers specific examples of how local institutions have responded, which are referred to as “best practices.”
