North African Women in France: Gender, Culture, and Identity

Book by Caitlin Killian, Drew University Reviewed by Charles A. Davis III, Fordham University
Spring 2008

Charles A. Davis III reviews North African Women in France: Gender, Culture, and Identity. The book is about the identity formation of North African immigrant women in Paris, France. The author bases her research on semi-structured interviews and studies how these individuals negotiate personal identity,  including “disidentification.” The author avoids reducing the identity of these individuals to solely women or solely Muslims.
