Amada Armenta, Professor of Sociology at University of Pennsylvania, and Roger Waldinger, Professor of Sociology at University of California, Los Angeles, review The Citizen and the Alien: Dilemmas of Contemporary Membership. The book is about the competing ideas of nationalism and transnationalism as well as opposing terms citizen and alien. It asks difficult questions about membership that may not have clear answers, but it is useful in that it forces students to grapple with these difficult questions.
