Diditi Mitra, Professor of Sociology at Brookdale Community College, reviews The Migrant’s Table: Meals and Memories in Bengali-American Households. The book is about the relationship between food and the construction of identity among middle-class Hindu Bengali-Americans. The study is based on a survey of Bengali-American households and an ethnography of a Bengali-American household. The author also touches upon the gender aspect of who prepares and distributes food.
