Book by Frank N.Pieke, St. Cross College, University of Oxford; Pal Nyiri, Central European University, Budapest; Mette Thuno, University of Copenhagen; and Antonella Ceccagno, University of Bologna Reviewed by Madeline Y.Hsu, San Francisco State University
Fall 2005

Madeline Y. Hsu, Professor of Asian American Studies at San Francisco State University, reviews Transnational Chinese: Fujianese Migrants in Europe. The book is about Chinese migrants from Mingxi and Fuqing who migrated to Italy, Hungary, Denmark, Britain, and the United States. The study focuses on working class Chinese, often unauthorized migrants. The study finds that Chinese migration is often not harmful and does not challenge non-Chinese for jobs as Chinese migrants tend to establish separate economic sectors and contributeĀ to local economies.
