The book provides an overview of migration in East Asia and several ethnographic case studies linguistically grounded in the region. It is divided into three sections: Migration, States and Cities; Family, Gender, Lifestyle and Culture; and Work, Ethnicity, and Nationality. The text deals specifically with Japan, China, Vietnam, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Korea.
